Lib Dems getting things done in Weybridge

Weybridge is a fantastic place to live, but we can make it better so we’ve been focused on getting things done for our community. Here’s a snapshot of some of our most recent achievements.

Supporting Families

We’ve actively supported the construction of the new eco-friendly splash pad in Churchfields Recreation Ground, a project that has brought real joy to children and families while respecting our environment by reducing  water use compared with the former paddling pool.  Summer car parking data shows the splash pad has also increased footfall in the town. Alongside this, the Council has recently completed a full refurbishment of the play equipment and surrounding surfaces, and transformed the redundant paddling pool into a spacious sand pit, further improving this popular family space.

The Impact of Delivery Companies

We’ve worked with residents to hold large delivery companies to account over the impact of overflow van parking around Locke King Road, including congestion, noise, litter, and inconsiderate parking.   We’ve raised these issues directly with the companies involved and with Surrey Highways, leading to improvements for residents, and we will continue pressing for clear, enforceable solutions that protect residents’ quality of life.

Weybridge Library Hub

Following our engagement with Surrey County Council during the planning stages, the refurbished Weybridge Library has reopened and now includes the Elmbridge Borough Council–run Community Hub.  Our ideas were taken on board to make the building more adaptable and welcoming. The first-floor hall now includes a kitchen to encourage wider use, and the entrance from the car park has been redesigned as a main route through a landscaped seating area. We’re grateful to Weybridge in Bloom for enhancing this space.

Weybridge Health Centre
After eight years of uncertainty, planning approval and funding for the replacement Weybridge Health Centre have now been confirmed, giving real confidence that this long-needed facility is finally moving forward. It will be vital for the NHS to keep the project on track and minimise disruption, and we have also been actively involved in the Phoenix Falmily Practice Patient Participation Group, pushing for clearer communication and better processes for patients.

A smarter approach to our roads

Traffic and transport remain a daily frustration. We’ve worked with Surrey County Council on a more strategic approach to road management, supported traffic-calming around schools, backed new zebra crossings, and supported the campaign to secure an HGV ban via Brooklands Road and Heath Road supported by a new ANPR enforcement camera. We’ve also worked with residents and delivery companies to reduce the impact of overflow parking around Locke King Road.

Our High Street

A thriving town centre is at the heart of our community. That’s why we supported the creation of the Weybridge Business Improvement District (BID), bringing new vitality, investment, and activity to our High Street.  By bringing local businesses together around a shared plan and shared funding, the BID has made a strong start. The BID has made a strong start with the Christmas trees and installation of festive lighting — and this is just the beginning, with more projects on the way to strengthen Weybridge as a vibrant place to live, work, and visit.

Brooklands Technical College

We have been pleased to support a major redevelopment programme securing its long-term financial future and strengthening education and skills provision. New facilities are already complete, with further phases underway, alongside new homes on the site including affordable housing.

Protecting Our Environment

Protecting our local environment is a core priority.  As well as the new eco-friendly splash pad installation, switching planting schemes in Churchfields Recreation Ground from annuals to perennials is one small but meaningful example of how we’re reducing waste, supporting biodiversity, and creating greener public spaces.  We still have a lot to do and are not complacent about the current situation.
